Almotamar.net - With Yemen’s celebration of the Democracy Day on 27 April with mass festivals to be held today in all of the Yemeni governorates the civil society organisations number is increasing in Yemen amounting to 5900 organisations which constitute one of the pillars of democracy in Yemen.

Social Affairs and Labour Undersecretary Ali Saleh Abdullah said the ministry granted 5900 licenses for civil organisations working in Yemen since 1990, the year of achieving the Yemeni unity. In association with the unity Yemen adopted democracy and the freedom of opinion and expression as well as the establishment of different civil society organisations.

Social Affairs Undersecretary added that the role of the civil society organisations is very great in consolidating the social awareness about different issues and that would urge the ministry to amend and add many of legislations regulating the work of these organisations and to activate their social and human role. But he criticized the increase of civil organisations lacking of outputs compatible with their size saying the number of active organizations is limited.

In his book on the social work and the civil society organisations the Yemeni official points out the government role in establishing many institutions on the woman and supporting her especially the establishment of the higher council for the woman affairs, the national committee for the woman. In addition, the government the government approved the establishment of administrations for the woman in all ministries and government institutions as well as the higher council for motherhood and childhood and encouragement and support for the Yemeni women general federation.

Moreover, Mr Saleh affirms that the civil organisations have the right to obtain foreign and local assistance in accordance with the law and directly provided that the offered assistance is registered with the concerned administrative authorities.
